Love the roar of a jet engine? Then from April 4th to 9th, you’ll want to head to the SUN ‘n FUN Fly-In in Lakeland, Florida. The daily air show is a major draw, and this year the French National Team will perform for the first time in the United States. The US Navy Blue Angels are also performing from the 6th through 9th, and there will be a demo of the powerful L-39 Harrier.

These are just the biggest names – there’s a full program of vintage and modern aircraft that take part in the shows too, and every breathtaking display can get the heart racing. On the Wednesday and Saturday evenings there will be night air shows, including fireworks on the Saturday night performance. Visitors will even have a chance to grab an autograph from the ace pilots who perform these amazing feats of flying.

There are plenty of opportunities to check out grounded aircraft in the Thunder Alley Vintage Jet Display, and learn more about them from industry pros. Education is a huge part of this event, and aviation educators will have the opportunity to attend workshops and demonstrations with astronauts, pilots, and big brains from NASA. Early risers will have a chance to see the spectacular hot air balloon launch that happens between 6:30 and 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, and if you’re looking to start your career in aviation, there’s a massive jobs fair that is an essential part of SUN ‘n FUN.

Planning to fly-in to the event? Provided it was built before 1976, you can enter your aircraft to be judged and potentially win an award. And if you’re in need of a special part for your own aircraft, you may well find it at the Parts Exchange.

If you’re traveling to the SUN ‘n FUN Fly-In and have less interest in aviation than your family or friends, you’ll be pleased to know there is a Ladies Pavilion filled with shopping events, crafting workshops, and even a resident masseuse to enjoy. In the Kid Zone there are bounce houses, a zip-line, and plenty of other midway-type activities to keep children happy and entertained.

Other highlights include the SUN ‘n FUN car show, where you can admire hundreds of classic and custom autos displayed by passionate enthusiasts. There’s also an outdoor movie every evening (all aviation themed of course).

This is Florida’s largest annual convention, and the second largest meeting of aviation fans in the world. Last year the SUN ‘n FUN Fly-In attracted visitors from 80 different countries. Every year the organizers knock it out of the park when it comes to programming, and 2017 is no exception. Scootaround will be providing electric scooter, wheelchair, and wagon rentals at the show.
