If you’re a rodeo fan, then the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is an event that should be marked at the very top of your bucket list. Also known simply as RodeoHouston, or abbreviated to HLSR, this is the largest indoor rodeo in the world, and a prestigious event that offers up a purse of more than $2 million. From mutton busting kids to bull-riders, you’ll find wonderful levels of passion and enthusiasm at HLSR.

This 20 day long event is huge, both in terms of attendance (the 2015 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo brought in more than 2.4 million people) and what there is on offer. This year has a spectacular line-up of entertainment and events, and is sure to once again break attendance records.

Some of the biggest names in music will be playing this year’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. For country fans, there’s Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, The Band Perry, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, Kenny Chesney, Florida Georgia Line, Little Big Town, and Billy Currington. You can also catch Kid Rock, Pitbull, Shawn Mendes, and lots of other artists performing at various stages around over the 20 days.

The HLSR is also famed for hosting the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest, where more than 250 teams compete to win the coveted best overall barbeque crown. This is such a fun event to attend. Besides the fact you get to try delicious meats, and savor those sweet smells as you browse the fantastically decorated barbeque pits (some are made to look like fire trucks, garbage trucks, armadillos and all manner of other novel items), but there’s also live music, dancing, and beer to help you have a wonderful time at the contest.

Houston is proud to host this event, and for many locals this is as important to the city as Mardi Gras is to New Orleans. The HLSR starts with a parade through downtown, and there are lots of events that run in around it, such as a 5k and 10k walk and run, and the Uncorked! International Wine Show.

The livestock side of things is impressive, with auctions as well as shows to check out, and the Top Hands Horse Show showcases various riding styles. There’s pig racing, a talent show (Rodeo Rockstar), International Days, a Ladies Night Out, Horticulture exhibits, and much more. With so much happening every day, you’re sure to find plenty that interests you in the lineup.

Scootaround is pleased to offer two rental locations at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, so you can pick up an electric wheelchair or mobility scooter to help you get around and enjoy everything that this event has to offer.
