For more than 130 years, the Arizona State Fair has wowed visitors. This year, the event looks to be absolutely fantastic, with a full program of agriculture, entertainment, superstar concerts, and much, much more. From October 16th through November 8th, visitors can have a blast checking out everything that the fair offers. Here’s a run-down of the highlights:
There’s plenty of good old-fashioned fun to be found, from the classic agriculture shows, rodeo, and exhibitions that you’d expect to find at any state fair, to pie eating contests to chili cook-offs. There are also car and truck shows, a demolition derby, and plenty of wacky entertainment from a BMX Freestyle show to arm wrestling to a big bear show (yes, featuring real live bears).
This year’s concert series offers a superb array of musical acts, including rock acts Jane’s Addiction, Brett Michaels, Meatloaf, Rick Springfield, Jackson Browne and Sheryl Crow, alongside country star Gary Allan, the incredibly popular chart acts Flo Rida, and DJ Jason Derulo , and teen sensation Austin Mahone. (These concerts are ticketed, and more info can be found here.)
The fair is also a great place to shop, and you’ll find plenty of vendors there offering up great bargains, and even a Caribbean themed shopping area where you can enjoy cocktails as you browse – doesn’t that just sound fabulous?
In recent years fair food has gone a little crazy, and you’ll certainly find some weird and wonderful things to try at the Arizona State Fair this year. Last year you could get deep-fried coffee, Jack Daniel's bacon-wrapped churros, deep-fried pickles, and so much more – who knows what extravagant 10,000 calories treats will be on offer this year? And if you just can’t choose from all that delicious fried goodness? Be sure to attend the Fair on a Friday between 12 noon and 6 pm when you can sample signature items for just two dollars a piece.
Be sure to eat after heading to the rides, because there are plenty there that’ll make it hard to keep your food down! Though of course there are lots of family friendly rides to enjoy, whether you’re a little kid or just a big kid at heart.
The Arizona State Fair is an excellent event, and offers a lot to explore. Because the venue is huge, and there is so much to explore over the course of the fair, those with mobility issues will find it useful to book a mobility scooter or wheelchair to ensure that nothing holds them back from enjoying everything that they want to see and do. Scootaround has mobility scooter and wheelchair rentals on site, but you may want to book in advance of traveling to the fair to ensure that your needs are met.
