This week the biggest auto-collector event in the Southeast is happening – the bi-annual Charlotte Auto Fair at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, which runs from September 24th through 27th. Whether you’re looking to buy a beautiful piece of automobile history, or just love to admire prestige vehicles, you’re in for a real treat at this massive show, which in April attracted more than 150,000 people for the four day event, had more than 1000 cars for sale, and 100s of stands set up at the huge swap meet.
What types of cars can you expect to see in Charlotte? From the oldest American cars in existence to revved-up hotrods to top-of-the-line high-performance sports cars, they’ll all be there on display to admire. There are also 1000s of vendors on site selling everything you could ever need for your cars, or to show your appreciation of them. 50 car clubs are expected to attend, so you’ll see gatherings of Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs and more, and super-enthusiastic owners hanging out together.
At the April show visitors were able to check out the cars of NASCAR stars, a DeLorean (the car used as a time-machine in the back to the future movies), plus they got to enjoy a diverse range of events from lawn mower racing, pogo stunt teams showing of their crazy skills, and interesting displays showcasing auto history.
Twice a year the event organizers put together an awesome program designed to keep everyone happy and entertained, whether they’re a car nut or not. There’s a kid-zone with special activities too (everything from Lego building to face painting to kid-friendly entertainment) so you can retreat there if your little ones get fed-up of staring at all that chrome!
There’s lots going on all day over every one of the four days that this event is happening, and visitors are encouraged to stay all day. Fortunately, they’ll find sustenance with some unique and delicious fair food on offer. The 1200-calorie burger on offer at the April event proved to be a big (and we mean BIG) hit. Picture chowing down on a quarter-pound cheeseburger topped with hash browns, more cheese, bacon, an over-easy egg, served between two slices of French toast and drizzled with maple syrup. You may not be able to move for a while if you do manage to polish that off!
The Charlotte Auto Speedway is a vast venue, and every year the show just gets bigger and better, which can be challenging (and tiring) if you have mobility issues. Scootaround is the exclusive scooter rental service for the Charlotte Auto Fair, offering mobility scooter and wheelchair rentals on site. Booking in advance will ensure that you have the equipment you need arranged before you get to the event, so all you need to think about is making the most out of every second of your trip.
