What
Is a Mobility Scooter?
Mobility
scooters (also known as an ECV or electric convenience
vehicle), are battery-powered devices that are used
by riders who have difficulty walking over medium to
long distances. These scooters are powered by quiet-running
electric motors and come in three or four wheel models.
They are steered using handlebars that are attached
to a vertical arm known as a tiller. Scooters are great
for outdoor use and can be driven easily over a variety
of surfaces. Scooters are also offered in portable models
that can be easily stowed in the trunk of your car.

of scooters we have available for rent.
Electric
Scooters (Transportable)
Transportable
scooters are collapsible and break into several pieces
for easy storage in the trunks of most vehicles. Generally,
these scooters will have removable seats, batteries
and rear drive assemblies (the rear wheels and battery
compartment). Some models also have a base that can
be further disassembled.
These
scooters can be disassembled and loaded into the trunk
of a medium-to-full-sized car (with the heaviest piece
weighing between 40 and 60 lbs).
The
maximum weight capacity for these vehicles are between
250lbs and 300lbs.

Electric
Scooters (Standard)
Standard
scooters are similar to the transportable models above,
but are designed to have more stability and an increased
weight capacity. Standard models are versatile and can
be used both indoors and out.
These
scooters cannot be disassembled completely -- the tiller
folds down and the seat is removable. These scooters
are are more suitable to be transported in a mini-van
or SUV.
The
maximum weight capacity for these vehicles are 300lbs
for a Standard model and 450lbs for a Heavy Duty model.

Powerchairs
Powerchairs
offer a shorter wheel base than traditional wheelchairs
for excellent maneuverability in small spaces. Although
they have a compact design, many models do not easily
disassemble. We recommend using a passenger van or SUV
with a removable third row seat if you plan to transport
the chair.
The
maximum weight capacity for these vehicles are 250lbs
for a Standard model and 450lbs for a Heavy Duty model.

Manual
Wheelchairs
Manual
Wheelchairs offer the lightest solution for a mobility
assistance vehicle. They are maneuverable, comfortable
and can be folded down for storage in the trunks of
most vehicles.
The
maximum weight capacity for a standard manual wheelchair
is 250lbs. Heavy duty models are available with weight
capacities of up to 450lbs.
