| Family Vacation…
Saved!
Ah, the family summer vacation!
Saul Silva and his family were returning home from theirs,
a successful and fun trip to Disney World in Orlando. While
on the road back to Houston, Texas, Saul made a startling
discovery.
"It wasn't until I reached a pay toll
that I realized my wallet was missing. I pulled over and searched
all my luggage, but it wasn't there," he said. "I
didn't have a clue where my money was at."
Let's back up the story a bit. A week prior,
Saul saw the Scootaround delivery van and their driver, Dan
Higdon, making a scooter delivery to the hotel
where Saul was staying.
"I was going to rent a scooter inside
Disney World, I didn't even have a clue you could rent them
outside," Saul noted.
For Dan, it was just business as usual -
Dan is part of the Scootaround international delivery team
that provides scooter and wheelchair deliveries to customers
at their destination North America wide. He was making a delivery
to the hotel for the next day when he was approached by Saul
in the parking lot. Dan answered Saul's questions, and a quick
phone call to Scootaround, Saul was riding his own rental
unit around Walt Disney World.
So what was happening with the Silva family
at the toll? Saul had no idea where his wallet was, but his
wife remembered seeing it on top of the fridge in the hotel.
They made a call, but the hotel staff said they didn't have
it. They headed back to Orlando to retrace their steps and
hope for the best.
"We were back at the hotel, talking
to the staff and looking for the wallet when I remembered
the scooter," said Saul. He didn't remember leaving it
in the scooter's basket, but he thought it was definitely
worth a call.
So he called the Scootaround call center,
and a reservation specialist contacted Dan about a potential
lost wallet. Dan checked the scooter and sure enough, right
in the basket under the charger, a wallet was hiding.
As it turned out, it wasn't just the hassle
or replacing some ID and credit cards, and a small financial
hit. "It was at least three inches thick. I didn't look
at it too closely, but I could tell there was something in
it," Dan recalls.
The wallet, Saul said, contained more than
just some money and cards. It contained both he and his wife's
credit cards, pieces of ID, about $2000 cash, and over $10,000
in travelers checks. So you can imagine Saul was both extremely
grateful and perhaps a little surprised to get his wallet
back.
When he got home, Saul ran a little experiment
on his Facebook profile, asking his friends what they would
do if they found a wallet with that much in it. As he suspected,
many of his friends said they would have kept at least some
of the cash. But in this case Saul got his wallet back in
its entirety with nothing missing.
"There are not too many people who
would have done that, especially in times like these,"
Saul said. "You can tell when somebody is doing something
for the money. Dan was doing this just to do the right thing."
"I think we've all been in a situation
where we've lost our wallet, or couldn't find it, so you know
what that feels like," Dan said. At Scootaround we care
about our customers and their needs and this was just another
way for me to carry that message forward.
Saul was so grateful, he wanted to give
Dan a reward for returning the wallet. Dan refused.
"I wouldn't feel right if I didn't
at least buy him lunch," Saul said.
"I really wanted Dan to get a pat on
the back for what he did," he added.
Scootaround is proud of their reputation
and their team members like Dan and his efforts to insure
that all customers are treated fairly and given the confidence
that they are dealing with a company that appreciates their
business.
