Who is Scootaround Inc.?
Scootaround
is a mobility enhancement company offering a national scooter
and wheelchair rental service for mature and disabled travelers.
Founded in 1997, Scootaround
rents scooters, wheelchairs and other mobility assistance
machines in over 500 locations throughout North America.
"It
all began when my father had a stroke a number of years ago",
explains co-founder Lee Meagher, "We wanted to travel
and not have to bring his scooter with us, but we found it
very difficult to find scooters to rent. There is rarely a
category for them in the yellow pages, and the companies that
will rent scooters, often don't advertise. They focus on sales,
so you need to do a lot of digging to find them" In the
course of travels with her father, Lee was able, through extensive
research, to find scooters in every city they wanted to visit.
Recognizing that there must be many others in the same situation,
Lee and her brother, David Vincent, decided to found Scootaround.
Scootaround's
mission is to provide an easy, convenient way for mature and
disabled travelers to enjoy their vacations and other excursions
and not have to worry about their personal mobility. By contacting
Scootaround
through their Internet site or toll free number, they can
arrange a scooter rental through a network of dealers all
across North America.
Today,
there is a growing number of people that rely on electric
scooters and related equipment to get around in everyday life.
They also want to enjoy the same freedom and independence
when they travel. Scootaround
has provided a convenient and hassle-free service to these
travelers whether they are vacationing in popular tourist
destinations, enjoying cruise ship excursions, attending conventions
and conferences, travelling, on business trips or visits of
any kind all over North America.
To
better serve their customers, Scootaround
works closely with travel and tour companies, airlines and
cruise lines to increase awareness of the service they make
available to travelers. Scootaround is very active within
the medical community as an active participant in key conferences
and associations like Society for the Advancement of Travel
for the Handicapped (SATH), World Congress and Exposition
on Disabilities, and Medtrade.
